Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning nearly 50 years of legal precedent and eliminating the constitutional right to abortion established in Roe v. Wade. Today’s opinion overturning Roe v. Wade threatens the fundamental rights of every American. In recent years, the Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act, given the green light to partisan gerrymandering, opened the door to a flood of unaccountable dark-money spending on elections, and sided with corporate special interests in case after case.
Going forward, abortion rights will be determined by the states, unless Congress acts. This means that state courts are more important than ever before. We need fair and impartial courts, with judges and justices that are independent from partisan politics and special-interest influence. We are not powerless to fight this decision. We must work even harder to protect abortion access here in Ohio. There are three seats for the Ohio Supreme Court in the November election. Let’s vote to make sure the Ohio Supreme Court protects our reproductive freedoms and fights for equal justice. For more information on these races, please visit http://ohsc22.info.
